 Term 3+4 2022

Sycamore Class have had another fantastic two terms, jam-packed with so much learning - they have been superstars!

In Term 3, Sycamore Class explored the exciting world of festivals, beginning the term with some fun festival games and music. We hand-jived, sang and danced our way through the term, exploring rock and roll in music. In English we thought about the sights and sounds of Diwali, prompting some excellent report writing, followed by creative writing where we came up with our own festival (we had some very inventive ideas!). We ended the term with our own class festival wearing our brilliantly created tie-dye t-shirts, putting up our wonderful festival decoration, and making our healthy sandwiches that we had planned in DT.

Term 4 transported us back in time to the Roman era, where the children found themselves exploring a Roman fort to find out all about inventions, timelines and daily life. We have since explored how the Romans invaded Britain and looked at key individuals such as Julius Caesar and Boudicca. Our English work has focused around the text ‘Escape from Pompeii’, with the children writing emotive diary entries and newspaper reports.

Terms 1 and 2 2021

Sycamore Class have had a brilliant start to the year, with so much fantastic learning going on already - they have been nothing short of amazing!

In Term 1, Sycamore Class entered a portal into the exciting world of Ancient Egypt. We crawled through tombs and entered one of the great pyramids, uncovering exciting sources and artefacts! Mummification, important Pharaoh’s, the pyramids and the River Nile were just some of the learning we explored, ending the term with a super Egyptian day full of fun activities.

Sycamore Skyline swiftly departed Lympne School at the start of Term 2, taking us all on an around the world trip! We tasted food from the seven continents on board the flight, flew over the wonders of the world, proved ourselves as explorers through a difficult obstacle course, and did some great singing, art and research. During this term, the class were dramatically hit by an earthquake prompting some brilliant newspaper report writing, and some very explosive volcano experiments led to excellent volcano poems.

Sycamore Class are super scientists – In Term 1, we explored the digestive system and teeth, where we carried out incredibly disgusting science experiments! This term, we have been exploring states of matter, making lots of careful observations (we have loved the tasty experiments!).

In maths, we have developed our understanding of place value, addition and subtraction, and length and perimeter using concrete, pictorial and abstract methods. In PE, we have had lots of fun doing pop lacrosse, tennis and dance – we have shown great sportsmanship when competing with each other, and worked so hard on our Kung Fu Fighting dance which we performed superbly at the dance showcase! During RSE, we have explored how we are all unique and celebrated that each of us are different. In RE, we have learnt about the creation story and the trinity, and art has been full of cross hatch drawing and watercolour painting. Term 1+ 2 have been jam-packed and everyone in Sycamore Class has done SOOO much spectacular work.

What an AMAZING year it has been so far – have a wonderful and well-deserved Christmas break! I am very proud of all your achievements and I can’t wait for everything else we get up to this year!

See you in Term 3
